Sociology exists in the interstices of MIT's school and departmental structure. Our institutional homes include organizational studies and economic sociology in the Sloan School of Management, the Anthropology and Science Technology and Society programs in the School of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences, as well as the department of Urban Studies and Planning in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning. Across these organizational spaces, we offer a common theoretical and methodological resource: commitment to systematic exploration and analysis of the mechanisms and processes of aggregation that influence, channel, and organize human action.
